Srinagar, January 05 (KNO) : In a tragic incident, five of the family members of Tanghdar including two minors were found dead in Srinagar’s Mansoor Colony in Bemina locality on Saturday.
A police official told KNO that the family is from Kupwara district and was living in a rented accommodation here for medical purposes.
"The deaths have been probably caused by asphyxiation. Medical teams will get to it," he said. The dead include two children, two women and a male member of the family.
Meanwhile, Police spokesman said that in this morning, they received information by Police Post Bemina that five persons who were living as tenants at Mansoor Colony, Bemina are lying unconscious in their rented room.
“Subsequently, a police team from Police Post Bemina rushed to the spot and shifted all the five persons to JVC Hospital for treatment where doctors declared them brought dead,” police said while identifying the five deceased as Khursheed Ahmad, 45 years old son of Abdul Rashid, his wife Gulshan Jan 45 years old, his two sons Faizan Ahmad 08 years old and Furkan Ahmad 05 years old, and his mother Rashmea Jan 65 years old, all residents of Batpora Tanghdar.
“Reportedly, the family had taken room on rent last week as one of the family member was getting treated at JVC Hospital. After completion of all medico legal formalities, the bodies are being shifted to their native village,” police said, adding that a probe has been initiated to ascertain the cause of their death.
However, the officials said that the dead bodies will be air lifted to Tanghdar tomorrow. Moreover, the mainstream political party leaders and others expressed grief over the demises, demanding authorities to airlift the bodies to Tanghdar.
National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah have expressed deep anguish and shock over the death of five members of a Tanghdar family due to asphyxiation at their rented accommodation in Bemina on Saturday.
Dr Farooq while expressing sorrow said, “It is deeply distressing to know about the incident. May Almighty give the bereaved much needed strength to bear the loss and peace to the departed souls.” Dr Farooq impressed upon the divisional administration of Kashmir to air left the bodies to their native place for last burial rites.
Omar Abdullah while expressing sorrow over the incident said, “I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the five residents of Tanghdar who have lost their lives tragically in the dreadful incident,” adding that in order to forestall such incidents from happening in future, administration must hold awareness campaigns by employing different modes of mass media including social media.
“I urge the administration to grant adequate ex-gratia relief to the bereaved family. Meanwhile I take this opportunity to appeal the people to use appliances and other gadgets watchfully to ensure there is no harm to their life and property,” he said.
Meanwhile party’s provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani has spoken to authorities concerned and has requested them to air lift the bodies from Srinagar to Tanghdar, said a statement. District President Kupwara Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Kafeel ur Rehman have also condoled the tragic death of five family members and have prayed for peace to departed souls.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has condoled the demise of five residents of a family of Tanghdar area of Kupwara district due to asphyxiation in a house at Bemina in the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday and expressed the hope that the administration will take all measures for airlifting the bodies of the deceased to Tanghdar.
Taking to twitter, Mehbooba wrote, “Very sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident where five of a family, residents of Tangdhar died of suffocation. My deep condolences to the family. Hope the administration takes all the necessary steps to ensure that the bodies are taken to Tungdhar at the earliest.”
Peoples Conference (PC) chairman Sajad Gani Lone condoled the demise of five Tanghdar residents who died due to asphyxiation at Bemina Srinagar. He has urged Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to airlift the bodies of deceased.
Taking to twitter, Sajad said, “Hart felt condolences to the families of the five residents of Karnah including children who have died tragically. Have requested Div Com Kashmir to airlift the bodies. He has been kind and assured all help if weather permits.”
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Saturday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of five members of Tangdhar family due to suffocation and conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved family, who lost their dear ones in this tragic incident.
In his condolence message, Mir condoled the demise of five Tangdhar residents including two children aged 8 and 5 who were found dead and described the incident as very tragic, painful and highly unfortunate.
In a statement issued to KNO, Mir also emphasized the Governor administration to airlift the dead bodies to Tangdhar for last rites and ensure adequate relief to the bereaved family. Expressing sympathies with the bereaved family, Mir prayed for eternal peace to departed soul.
Meanwhile, District Congress Committee President Kupwara Haji Farooq Mir has expressed profound grief over the tragic incident in which five members of Tangdhar family lost their lives. He conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved family.
Meanwhile, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami also expressed grief and shock over the tragic incident in Mansoor Colony, Bemina area of Srinagar in which five members including two minors of a family died. There are reports that they had rented a room and were putting up there as the road to Tangdhar, Kupwara was closed after heavy snowfall since overnight.
In a statement issued to KNO, the CPI (M) leader demanded that the dead bodies of deceased be immediately airlifted to their native village in Tangdhar as the road is closed after heavy snowfall. He expressed sorrow over the loss of precious lives and urged the government to provide ex-gratia to the families of deceased.
Expressing deep shock and grief over the death of five members of a Tangdhar family, former Finance Minister Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has urged the Governor led administration to ensure immediate airlifting of their bodies to their native place for last rites.
In his condolence message, Bukhari has condoled the demise of five Tangdhar residents including two children aged 8 and 5 years who were found dead due to asphyxiation at their temporary residence in Bemina Srinagar on Saturday morning.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family who lost their dear ones including two kids tragically. I appeal the Governor led administration to extend all possible help besides airlifting their bodies for last rites at Tangdhar,” Bukhari who is outside the state said in his message. He also demanded immediate disbursement of ex-gratia relief for the bereaved family.
The former finance minister also appealed the people of Kashmir valley to use the gas or other heating gadgets cautiously and ensure there is no damage to their life or property while bracing up the winter vagaries.
“The administration must also issue advisories in this regard and convene frequent awareness campaigns using different means of communication,” Bukhari remarked. The former minister also urged the administration to ensure disruption free electricity, drinking water supply and availability of fuel and ration especially in remote parts of the Valley.(KNO)
